GITA ANZ and Locate – Better collaboration and a new way forward
One of our strategic plan objectives is industry representation and collaboration – the way in which we collaborate with like-minded associations. In relation to this I am pleased to advise that GITA ANZ have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which will see us being part of Locate from 2015 and afforded the same conference benefits as other Locate members including SSSI and SIBA.
The aim of Locate is to consolidate the top industry events including spatial@gov, SSSI Conference and the Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards, and now the GITA ANZ annual conference. Locate is now the premier national spatial information conference and exhibition in Australia and New Zealand and the GITA Board believe it’s now the right time for us to be part of this. Whilst we all have our own identities we do have shared interests and I see Locate as a perfect mechanism to bring additional value, collaborate and explore those shared interests.
Firstly, planning our annual conference consumes considerable time, effort and resources. Being part of Locate will enable us to focus more effort on regional events, webinars and other benefits. Our members will see more local and online events, this being one of the most important benefits members have asked for.
In recognition of the crowded conference landscape and in consideration of ongoing restrictions on discretional spending and travel we believe this is the natural progression for our annual event and a further step towards better industry collaboration. Specifically, GITA ANZ will remain a valuable part of and contributor to the spatial industry.
Locate 2015 will be held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, South Brisbane, Qld Australia from 10 to 12 March 2015. The GITA ANZ annual conference will now be consumed as one or more streams within Locate which will provide attendees the added benefit of a much larger conference with more delegates, exhibitors, presenters and GITA members discount. Being part of Locate will therefore provide enhanced value for money in terms of networking, content and experience. Our members will have access to not just the GITA stream, but all other streams, and can choose what is most relevant.
This year’s streams are:
· Innovation, Research and Development
· Managing our investment in infrastructure and utilities
· Securing our Nation, Disaster and Emergency Management
· Sustainable management of our natural resources
Please visit http://www.locateconference.com for an overview of the concurrent streams & topics, and the 2015 Exhibitor & Sponsorship Prospectus for those members who may be interested in exhibiting.
As GITA members, you are encouraged to participate and submit abstracts for the event. Registrations for delegates and exhibitors is now open. We are expecting 500+ delegates.
